My garbage disposal company likes to put our trash cans in our driveway directly behind my truck. I’m usually pretty good about noticing it’s there, but today I was in a hurry to get out the door and I hit it. There’s a big hole in my taillight lens now. This happened an hour before the junkyard closed so I rushed over there to find one. There was only one that was in decent shape, but It had a large crack down the front of it. It was intact and legal but I didn’t feel comfortable paying $22 for it. So in the checkout line I put a call into O’Reilly auto parts and ordered one to be shipped to my local store tomorrow morning for $36. But for now I’m driving around with this:

I forced the biggest broken piece back into place and taped it with painters tape. If I get pulled over, I’ll just tell the officer that I ordered a new one and I will be picking it up in the morning to install it.

Painters tape may not hold, that stuff falls off super easy if it gets a bit dirty. I also hope there isn’t a next time, but if that piece of taillight falls out again...

I nudges my trashcan with the drivers front and it dented the shit out of my kia. Kind of suprised. A few months ago someone hit my full trashcan hard enough to throw all the bags out of it. They kept going, but the car must have been hurt bad if the coolant trail and parts scatter are an indication.

I once backed my truck into a friend’s mail box. It was lower than your average mail box at night. Small dent in my tailgate. Barely touched it but I nearly knocked the thing over.

The bulb is there and it works, but its not the most legal thing to drive around with a taillight that isnt entirely red. It also looks butt ugly.

I backed into my garage wall by mistake when unloading some stuff a while ago (tried to get as close as possible), no damage to my truck, but the brick facade has some cracks in the grout. Gotta live indestructible bumpers huh? Im guessing it was the indestructible bumper that saved your truck

I ended up putting packing tape on it, but Im a perfectionist and am gonna replace the lens tomorrow.

Trashcans can leave some pretty surprising damage. Ive hit the thing before with no damage so I was a bit surprised when I went to move it after I hit it and I was missing a piece or two of my lens. No damage to the sheet metal though. That dent on there was caused by a rock that flew up when I was hauling a 7ft couch in my 6ft bed (tailgate down).

Wow. Last time I hit a can it was one of the big blizzards last year and I took the 1988 Land Cruiser out. I popped the neighbors can sliding locked up and the thing took off at a 45* angle like a movie prop and landed 30-40 feet away scatting crap everywhere and rupturing the bags. He came out later to put a bag in while I was shoveling the drive and was less than impressed that I had cleaned it up with a snow shovel and the lid no longer closed with all the white stuff inside + trash.

I decided I was putting steel bumpers on the 100 series after that, since it left a slight dent even in the chromed steel bumper on that FJ62!

True story... i once had an electrical problem in my truck that i had no brake lights when the headlights/running lights were on... north denver area, and it took me a few months to fix. Only pulled over once, only a warning. (full disclosure... i just didnt drive it at night... but i had stayed late at a friends house and it was dusk)
